Whipping up tasty meals at home just became a cinch! Gourmet Garden is my new bestie in the kitchen – fresh, organic herbs and spices all chopped up and ready to go in the convenience of a tube. Just squeeze and prepare to please! From basil, parsley, dill and garlic to more exotic delights like lemongrass and cilantro, these babies will instantly punch up any meal. I simply boil some pasta then squeeze in some of the Basil, a touch of the Garlic, mix it up and voila… in less than 10 minutes a supremely tasty meal is ready to be served – and no rinsing, no chopping, no slicing, no dicing required! My other favorite is creating a salad dressing by stirring the Basil into a little bowl of olive oil, a few squeezes of lemon and a dash of salt – this award-worthy concoction always generates many oohs and aahs. Take boring steamed veggies to new heights by tossing them with a few squeezes of the Dill. The ideas and possibilities are truly endless! They last several months in the frig and are gluten-free. For those with dairy sensitivities, know that one of the ingredients lower on the list is whey. Available at supermarkets across the country (click HERE for all locations). Bon Appetit!
Join me for a blissful day in the beautiful seaside town of Manhattan Beach today (Sunday, December 8th) to celebrate my new children’s book, No Biggy! There’ll be fun activities for the kids, lots of tasty organic treats and take home goodies for both kids and grown-ups. It’s all going down at 12:30 pm at Pages: A Bookstore – 904 Manhattan Avenue, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266 – 310.318.0900.
Endorsed by New York Times Bestselling Author and Pediatrician, Dr. Cara Natterson and inspiring celebrity moms: Julie Bowen, Jaime Pressly, Megyn Cotner, and Sarah Shahi, I wrote No Biggy! to help kids manage frustration. After all, getting frustrated is a part of life. And whether the curious little girl in this story is working on a puzzle, getting the zipper to slide up her jacket or trying to spread peanut butter on a piece of toast, she learns how to manage frustration by taking a deep breath, saying No Biggy! and trying again. She even teaches her mommy and daddy a thing or two, cuz grownups sure get frustrated a lot too.

Hot dignity! If these are being handed out to the little ghosts and goblins tonight I’m going trick or treating myself… Matt’s Munchies Apple-Licious Fruit Snacks are little slices of heaven. They come in a handy on-the-go pack (perfect for lunch boxes or stashing in the car) and these mini chewy fruit delights are super easy to eat – just peel off a square and munch away. Made with organic mango puree and organic apple flavor, they’re packed with Vitamins A and C and have eight grams of sugar. Try all of the tempting flavors – from Banana and Apricot to Chili Chocolate and Raspberry Delight. I’ll say it again, they’re darn tasty. Even better, they’re spook-a-licious! Happy Halloweeeeeeen!
I’m a huge sucker for mascara. Thick, come hither lashes? Sign me up! A few easy brush strokes quickly punches up the eyes any time of day. From the ultra fancy $30 tube to the bargain at just five clams, I’ve tried them all. Yes, there are several pricier luxury brands that I’ve grown quite fond of, but I’ve also discovered a huge winner that has now become my #1 go to – Loreal Paris Extra-Volume Collagen Mascara. The name alone is enough to give it a whirl! This stuff dramatically boosts my lashes and it doesn’t clump or smudge. More happy news, it’s under $7.00. Go ahead, drench your lashes with a little love.
Should you be whooping it up with friends and loved ones in celebration of the 65th Primetime Emmy® Awards this coming Sunday evening (set your DVR’s – that’s September 22nd!), why not do it up exactly like your favorite Emmy® nominees by offering guests a glass of wine by Beaulieu Vineyard®. That’s right… moments after the highly anticipated awards ceremony (go Breaking Bad, House Of Cards and Game Of Thrones!), those designer-clad TV stars glide over to the party that trumps all others, The Governors Ball, where I hear they’ll be served gourmet delicacies by Patina Chef and Founder Joachim Splichal and primo wines from Beaulieu Vineyard®, the famed Napa Valley winery. On the menu – the 2009 BV Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2011 Beaulieu Vineyard Carneros Chardonnay. So even if you don’t have the Armani duds and Louboutin hoofs you’ll certainly be toasting in A-List style!
This past year I’ve been on a non-stop chocolate hunt. From Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s to ultra fancy shmancy gourmet shops, I’m a glutton for sampling hordes of different chocolate bars. From $1.50 to $15.00 a pop, I’ve found my winner, my pick, my ultimate, my favorite (and, now I’m stocking up on it)… Almonds and Sea Salt in Dark Chocolate by Chocolove. It’s the most delectable combination of salty/sweet and crunchy/creamy. All I can say is there are a minimum of four bars in my frig at a time, and there’s absolutely no signs of tiring of this sweet, dreamy confection. Added bonus, it’s $2.59 which is a whole lot less than the many $15.00 varieties I consumed. And, in my opinion, Chocolove’s is the best. Bring a couple of bars to your next gathering and watch the melting happen. And, I’m not just talking about the chocolate here!
When you think of vegan, gluten-free cookies, incredibly tasty and delicious isn’t always what first comes to mind. But Lauren and Heather, the savvy girls behind The Inspired Baker, have done just that. Their cookies are so rich, so memorable, so decadent, they’ll make your head spin. I was lucky enough to indulge on the Peanut Butter Pretzel Chocolate Chip (yup, they’re vegan and gluten-free). I tested these babies out with a few dudes too – hardcore meat and potato types who never go near anything even mildly healthy. These guys almost polished off the entire bag in one sitting; and didn’t have a clue there was nary an ounce of butter, milk, cream or wheat inside. Ha, fooled ’em! Other jaw-dropping flavors are available too, like Midnight Mocha and Peanut Butter and Jelly. Talk about a treat worth treating yourself too. Get in on the action by contacting Lauren and Heather at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Whether you’re in the mood to go all out and take your pedi to the next level or just looking for an ultra memorable gift, head straight to Spa Montage at Montage Hotel Beverly Hills for the Beverly Hills Pedicure. Before kicking off this heavenly one-hour treatment I highly recommend arriving at least 30-45 minutes early so you can melt right into pampering mode by slipping into a robe and indulging in the spa where there’s a luxurious women’s jacuzzi lounge complete with all of the necessary accouterments (dry sauna, steam room, private rainfall showers). Afterwards, float over to the waiting room to sip on an array of exotic teas and healthy snacks – this is where your nail technician will greet you along with a glass of bubbly. You’ll then be escorted into your own private pedicure sanctuary featuring a plush, roomy chair and bursting with fresh, alluring aromas (thankfully, nary a whiff of potent nail polish remover!). Select a color from SpaRitual, one of the more natural, eco-friendly polish/body care lines available, and then sink back while treating your legs and footsies to not just any old massage. Nope, not here. This is The Beverly Hills Pedicure ladies and gents, so it’s all about the wildly relaxing hot stone massage. And they even take this decadence a step further by topping it off with a dusting of 24 Karat gold powder by Naked Princess. 90210oooooh so worth it!
Get ready to knock your socks off… this vegan ice “cream” by Stella’s Best blows away traditional ice creams (the ones that are loaded with cream, milk, and eggs). Rich, creamy and mind-blowingly decadent, Stella’s Best is pure heaven. Made from a base of coconut milk and cashews, this tasty treat is sweetened with unrefined evaporated cane juice and nary a dairy product in sight. You’re certain to fall in love with all of the flavors; they’re each loaded with chunky mix-ins such as Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Oatmeal Raisin Cookie, Red Velvet and Peanut Butter and Jelly. Just look at the photo attached to this blog – it doesn’t get anymore dreamy than that! Stella’s Best is a small local business, so all of their products are made to order. Fortunately you can also find it on the menu at Culina Restaurant located inside the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills. Dining at Culina happens to be a real treat and the food is very memorable, especially the delicacies at the one-of-a-kind raw bar. Then again, you can always just pop in for a giant bowl of Stella’s Best. And, when you want to blow away your friends at the next gathering, stock up on this stuff and enjoy the endless stream of oohs and aahs!
